Mazda recalls the 3 and 5 in the US due to steering issues

The recall affects 215,000 units of the Mazda 3 and 5 built from April 2, 2007 to November 30, 2008 due to a problem with the steering wheel system. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defect could lead to a sudden loss of power assist which reduces the driver's ability to steer the car, especially at low speeds.

Mazda has sent notice to affected owners, which are all in the US, and will begin rectifying the problem starting from September. Owners of the affected models who want to find out more information are advised to contact their Mazda dealer for details.
