Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its new, all-electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupe.
Top highlight for the new car is that it now makes use of an all-electric drivetrain. However, Mercedes-AMG isn't expecting this car to be any less exciting than its predecessor.
First off, this new iteration of the grand tourer now offers a total power output of 860kW (that's 1,153bhp, mind). All this is possible thanks to the use of a total of three axial flux motors, which also happen to give the car a peak torque of 2,000Nm. Mercedes quotes the zero to 100km/h sprint as taking just 2.1 seconds with this output.
Pick the Mercedes-AMG GT55 4-Door Coupe and you'll get a total of 600kW to power your grand tourer, allowing the century sprint to be completed in just 2.5 seconds. For some context, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT currently offers a total power output of 750kW, so we're talking some serious acceleration either way you pick your Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door.
These axial motors get their power from a 106kWh, which is said to feature directly cooled cylindrical cells and make use of a special cell chemistry to ensure uniform temperature distribution and high-performance stability under continuous load.
Development of this battery is additionally said to be the product of experience derived from the building of the Mercedes‑AMG ONE hypercar and the deep know-how of Mercedes‑AMG's top engineers in Affalterbach.
And if you're wondering, this battery can be charged at a power of up to 600kW, allowing a 10% to 80% state-of-charge refill to be completed in just 11 minutes.
Not convinced? Mercedes-AMG states that the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe will also offer a bespoke, vehicle-specific driving experience designed for fans of the V8. Set the car into this AmgForce S+ drive programme and you'll get a soundtrack that adapts according how the car is being driven – with gear changes and burbling at idle all simulated.
A 10.2-inch instrument cluster and a 14-inch infotainment display features in the cabin of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe and drivers will be able to customise the car's driving characteristics via three rotary dials on the centre console
Let's talk handling. At work here is Mercedes-AMG's air Active Ride Control air suspension system alongside semi-active shock absorbers, all working through a multi-link setup both at the front and at the rear. Oh, and there's also active rear-axle steering as standard for extra agility and stability at speed.
Step into the cabin of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe and you'll find a total of three screens: A 10.2-inch instrument cluster and a 14-inch infotainment display as well as a 14-inch passenger display, all said to offer 'razor-sharp' resolution.
The AMG GT 4-Door Coupe also gets newly developed sports seats, said to offer excellent lateral support although AMG Performance seats with integrated head restraints are also available.
Production of the new Mercedes‑AMG GT 4‑Door Coupe will begin in mid-2026 at the Mercedes‑Benz plant in Sindelfingen.
