Mercedes-AMG has enhanced the E53 4MATIC+ Saloon and Estate with a more striking design and enhanced options for individualisation.
Both cars now feature a bonnet with two distinctive powerdomes. The new front also receives new large outer air inlets with two cross louvres, while the new front splitter is finished in silver chrome.
At the rear, the round twin tailpipe trim elements are available in high-gloss chrome or high-gloss black as part of the Night Package. The Saloon has been given new two-piece LED taillights.
New 19-inch light-alloy wheels in an aerodynamically optimised five-twin-spoke design are standard, while 20-inch light-alloy wheels in a five-twin-spoke design are optionally available and come with a wider rim edge painted in a choice of matt black or high-gloss titanium grey.
The optional AMG Night Package will also give the new E53 models an even sportier appearance. The front splitter, mirror caps, disc frame, trim strip in the rear apron and tailpipe trim elements are styled in high-gloss black, while a darkened AMG radiator grille is available as a further optional extra.
A new AMG Performance steering wheel creates an even closer link between human and machine. The rounded three twin-spoke design combines stability with lightness, while the wheel cover is selectable in leather, DINAMICA microfibre or as a combination of leather and microfibre.
A new capacitive sensor mat on the new steering wheel is able to detect if the driver has his hands on the steering wheel even if no steering input is given.
If the system detects that the driver does not have their hands on the steering wheel for a certain time, a warning cascade is started, which finally activates Emergency Brake Assist if the driver continues to be inactive.
The 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine of the E53 models is characterised by top performance and intelligent electrification, delivering 429bhp and 520Nm of torque. The engine features an EQ Boost electric motor that combines a starter motor and alternator in a single powerful unit fitted between the engine and transmission.
The electric motor is not only used as an electric alternator, but also performs hybrid functions. These include boosting the engine with 21bhp of output and 250Nm of torque, as well as allowing energy recuperation, gliding mode and the restarting of the engine with the auto start/stop function.
An additional electric compressor is also used to build up a high charge pressure without any delay, for a faster increase in torque for acceleration until the turbocharger is deployed. As a result, the 3.0-litre engine delivers dynamic engine response with minimal turbo lag.
The AMG Driver's Package allows the electronically limited top speed in the new E53 models to be increased to 270km/h. The high-performance brake system is naturally appropriate for the power and performance. The front axle features cross-drilled and vented discs of 370mm x 36mm size with four-piston fixed calipers and AMG lettering, while the rear axle is fitted with 360mm x 26mm vented discs with single-piston floating calipers.
The interior of the new models welcomes occupants with AMG-specific appointments, luxurious materials and the latest-generation Mercedes-Benz User Interface infotainment system.
The synthesis of exclusivity and sportiness is embodied by sports seats in black ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfibre with an AMG design with red contrasting topstitching and an AMG badge.
As an option, AMG Performance Seat Packages can be ordered for all the available upholsteries, both in ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfibre and in nappa leather. There are also red seat belts and various trim elements.
