Mercedes-AMG's new EV platform is undergoing winter testing
21 Mar 2024|171 views
The next generation of performance electric vehicles by Mercedes-AMG is on its way.
Named the AMG.EA (or AMG Electric Architecture in full), the first dedicated electric vehicle architecture developed by Mercedes-AMG is now undergoing initial winter testing in northern Sweden, where temperatures go as low as -25 degrees Celsius.
This winter testing is only the beginning of a demanding and comprehensive test plan for the AMG.EA, which will span various testing grounds, continents and even climate zones. Part of this intensive testing programme also includes placing individual components and the system of the platform through their paces.
The AMG.EA drive concept is based on a new axial-flux motor technology, which Mercedes-AMG states will offer an unparalleled mix of power density, size and weight. The car's power unit will also operate hand in hand with a new high-performance high-voltage battery.
Mercedes-AMG has called the AMG.EA a "technological trailblazer", and expects it to pioneer new innovations for the brand. Notably, however, this latest piece of news also brings with it a tangible teaser of what is set to come next; the camouflaged car used in the testing hints at potential designs for future electric AMG cars.
