Mercedes-Benz SG celebrates SG60 with special edition model

Just a few weeks back, we saw the launch of the Mercedes-Maybach SL680 in Singapore.

But I guess Mercedes-Benz has decided to one-up itself, as it launches another luxury model, this time paying tribute to 60 years of Singapore's independence, with the Mercedes-Maybach S680 Edition Beyond 60.

Its hefty 6.0-litre V12 engine, combined with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, AIRMATIC suspension, and E-Active Body Control may tempt many a driver into a ticket and a fine

Under its sleek, shiny bonnet lies a 6.0-litre V12 engine that coughs up a whopping 604bhp, although the litany of speed cameras along our roads means one will probably have to head to the track to experience the true power of this model, which also comes with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Then again, its spacious rear cabin suggests it would be better served in a chauffeur-driven luxury role.

Add innovations like the MBUX infotainment system with OLED technology, active ambient lighting, and the Burmester High-End 4D surround sound system and you've really got a high-tech chariot on 21-inch Maybach-exclusive "champagne" spoked forged wheels.

And make no mistake, this Mercedes-Maybach S680 Edition Beyond 60 is a one-of-one creation crafted exclusively for Singapore. Its Maybach two-tone paintwork in High-Tech Silver and Manufaktur Exclusive Carneol Red metallic is a reference to the city state's national colours.

This continues on inside its cabin, with its Maybach-exclusive special Nappa leather interior slathered in Manufaktur Crystal White and Manufaktur Exclusive Bengal Red. In a first for Maybach, at the heart of the car's dashboard is a laser-engraved motif - set against a Manufaktur black piano lacquer trim - depicting Singapore's skyline.

Further highlighting its exclusivity, the S680 Edition Beyond 60's centre console bears a "1 of 1" Edition badge, in addition to a "Beyond 60" emblem stamped on its C-pillar and illuminated door sills.

But, for all its local references and SG60-themed designs, its silhouette still screams Maybach. As does the two-tone paintwork and C-pillar emblem, and the chromed fin on its bonnet. And lest we forget its front fascia, featuring the signature Maybach radiator grille adorned with vertical chrome trim strips and Maybach lettering.

And for all its bespoke details, Maybach's signature touches of comfort and tactility is still fairly noticeable: High-pile black floor mats finished with crystal white border and red topstitching, along with four standard head-restraint cushions with two matching pillows in the S680 Edition Beyond 60 colours.

With various launches this year offering SG60 promotional prices, I think it's fairly safe to say that we can strike the Mercedes-Maybach S680 Edition Beyond 60 model off that list. Oh and in case you were wondering, the car goes for $1,821,965 with COE. Hear that? It's Santa beseeching you to wish for something more realistic for Christmas.
