Mercedes-Benz is showcasing its automated parking technology, called Mercedes Park Pilot, at the InterContinental in Los Angeles U.S.A.
The demonstration features the all-electric EQS, and utilises existing hardware that is already preinstalled in the model and also available in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The technology interacts with intelligent infrastructure installed by Bosch in the parking garage in order to enable the vehicle to drive and park itself.
Mercedes-Benz states that its vision for the technology will see driver and passengers in the future alighting at a designated drop-off area, and simply initiating the parking procedure via a smartphone app. Sensors within the carpark itself will be able to find a suitable space for the vehicles and if one is reserved or available, will confirm the handover of the vehicle and park it automatically with the help of the infrastructure installed within the parking facility.
Upon return, the driver can let the EQS drive to a designated pick-up area by smartphone command, saving driver and passengers time searching for parking spots and walking from the parking garage to their destination.
