Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX sets new efficiency record
18 Mar 2024|202 views
The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX has beaten the energy consumption figure it previously set after driving from Stuttgart to Silverstone in the U.K., this time by travelling across the Arabian Desert.
The new record, said to have encompassed both busy city streets and the open desert, saw the car reaching an electric power consumption rate of 13.5km/kWh (the consumption figure for the previous run stands at 12km/kWh).
The record run saw the car starting off from the Mercedes-Benz Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to reach a recently opened Mercedes-Benz Brand Center in Dubai in the U.A.E, a journey that spanned a total of 1,010km. However, Mercedes-Benz states that the Vision EQXX still manage to report that it had 309km of range left when this journey was completed.
Mercedes-Benz additionally states that the car saw dry desert temperatures reach as high as 34 degrees Celsius, but this proved to be no challenge for the car's advanced thermal management system, which managed to keep even its cabin cool with what Mercedes states was a 'minimal' impact on the car's overall energy efficiency.
The desert sun also gave Mercedes' engineers the opportunity to test the performance of the car's solar roof. Comprising of 117 solar cells, this roof powers the car's ancillaries, minimising their drain on the car's high-voltage system, and is said to have contributed a total of 1.8kWh of energy during the desert drive.
