Mercedes to introduce nine-speed gearbox for E-Class in the U.K.

From September, the facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-Class range in the U.K. will undergo a number of changes including the introduction of a new nine-speed gearbox - 9G-Tronic - for more power and lower emissions.
The pairing brings a significant reduction of up to 17g/km of CO2 emissions which now start from as low as 136g/km for the Coupe and as high as 143g/km for the Cabriolet.
The automaker has also managed to find six additional horses, bumping the power up to a total of 258bhp.
At the same time, the E220 BlueTEC will see a power increase of 7bhp to 177bhp, with a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 16g/km - while still married to the 7G-Tronic transmission. The E220 BlueTEC SE Saloon now boasts the lowest CO2 emissions of the range at 116g/km.
At press time, it is unclear if the updates will also be offered to local imports of the commercially acclaimed model.
