Mercedes-Benz has formally introduced the 'facelifted' E-Class sedan and wagon with efficient engines, new driver assistance systems and a refined design - that we are already familiar with thanks to the premature leaks.
Making the debut, are 11 new or optimised assistance systems from the future S-Class to enhance comfort and safety levels dubbed - intelligent drive. These ground breaking systems can help prevent accidents, avoid collisions and also feature anti-glare continuous high beam headlamps. The front end receives the majority of the aesthetic changes with one piece headlamps containing flowing light elements help retain the 'four-eyed' appearance of former models.
The updated E-Class is also available with two different 'faces'. The Luxury version sports the classic three-louver grille and star ornament on the hood while the Sport version integrates the famous star on the grille. The hood is sleek and smooth while the bumper has a modern flair with a distinctive aerofoil shape along its lower edge. Sport models are inspired by the AMG design with larger air intakes and a slim aluminum trim supporting the entire bumper.
The rear end has evolved from the model it replaces with a horizontal design that highlights the width of the vehicle with a distinctive night signature. Sport models feature exposed dual exhaust pipes that is mysteriously absent on others.
The interior has been revised to accommodate the external changes with a premium look and finish for a sophisticated look. One interesting feature is the introduction of the Stereo Multi-Purpose Camera which uses two lenses set at a 45 degree angle mounted on the windshield for a 3D view in the name of safety.
Both the E-Class sedan and wagon boast a range of powerful and efficient gasoline and diesel engines equipped with the ECO start/stop systems as standard equipment. The gasoline engines are derived from the highly successful V6 and V8 units akin to the E350 and E550.
A new engine variant will be the efficient four-cylinder diesel for the E250 BlueTEC. The E250 BlueTEC generates 190bhp and 499Nm of torque. All the powertrains will be coupled to a seven-speed automatic transmission that enhances efficiency and eases maintenance. The hot E63 AMG sedan and wagon however will be equipped with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT seven-speed MCT for an incredible performance.
