With this big difference, the tiny little MINI car's emissions will be reduced to 99 grams per kilometre from the current levels of 104 grams per kilometre. This also marks the first time when a diesel engine has been introduced in the convertible MINI.
Apart from the engine, there are some visual changes also. The new models will feature a more prominent grille in addition to a revised front bumper. Also, all the models will now come with LED tail lights. The revised range will also be available in three new trim specifications called Scene, Classic and Rally.
BMW, having invented the premium B-segment category, is giving mid-life facelifts to the MINI Cooper R56 which was introduced in 2006. The brand had a very nice run till now with little competition but the situation is changing fast. If archrival Audi has started production of A1 in the same segment, Citroen is one step forward with its DS3 being available for sale throughout Europe.
The competition is mounting for MINI brand which has relied on the "heritage design" for long. Surely, customers still like the design and have remained loyal to the MINI brand, BMW would be risking valuable market share by becoming complacent. It would be interesting to see how MINI takes on the new age designs of Audi A1 and others.
