MINI has revealed the new generation MINI Countryman. Now in its third generation, the crossover is being offered for the first time with all-electric drivetrains.
These include the MINI Countryman Electric E, which offers a total of 201bhp and 250Nm of torque. This car will deliver a range of 462km and will complete the zero to 100km/h sprint in 8.6 seconds.
The front 'grille' of the Countryman houses a small radar sensor that allows Level 2 semi-automated driving, while the C-pillar gets a new design to visually shorten the car
Those that need more power will also be able to opt for the MINI Countryman Electric SE ALL4, which comes with 309bhp and a whopping 494Nm of torque (For comparison, the MINI Clubman John Cooper Works we drove in May 2022 offers a total of 302bhp and 450Nm of torque). This Countryman will complete the zero to 100km/h sprint in 5.6 seconds and offer a WLTP range of 433km.
On the exterior, the new MINI Countryman has gotten the same touch of angularity we saw on the new MINI Cooper Electric. The car now sports an octagonal grille, which now comes with a small radar sensor integrated into its surface to enable Level 2 semi-automated driving - a first for the MINI brand.
The car also gets redesigned lights, which can offer different lighting signatures just like the MINI Cooper Electric. The rear lamps here, however, continue to stay as rectangular items.
The MINI Countryman also mirrors the Cooper Electric by being offered in a total of three trims: 'Classic', 'Exclusive' and 'Sport'. 'Exclusive' trim cars will come with the front grille in Vibrant Silver to match the MINI logo and can be had with an optional multi-tone roof.
'Sport' models, meanwhile, will come with a redesigned front and rear bumper, rear bumper, as well as side skirts and a rear spoiler. The trim also gets a high-gloss black front grille frame and can be had with a Chili Red roof and red/black bonnet stripes.
The crossover also utilises a 9.4-inch OLED display that runs the MINI's Operating System 9, and a curved dashboard finished with a versatile, easy-care textile in its cabin.
Those that pick combustion power for their MINI Countryman will, however, get rear seats that can slide fore and aft by 130mm. These will allow users to trade luggage space for rear leg room. Speaking of which, the combustion-powered range now starts with the MINI Countryman C, which gets 168bhp and a peak torque of 280Nm.
A MINI Countryman S ALL4 will also be offered, delivering a total of 215bhp and 360Nm of torque. The MINI Countryman JCW ALL4, meanwhile, will come with a total of 295bhp, and deliver a peak torque of 400Nm.
First deliveries of the MINI Countryman are set to start in the U.K. come February 2024.
