Mob turned violent and attacked emergency vehicles at last night's riots

Emergency vehicles responding to a fatal accident between a private bus and a 33-year old Indian national at the junction of Race Course Road and Hampshire Road were attacked, reported the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
"Upon arrival, there was a man trapped under a bus. An SCDF paramedic pronounced him dead on arrival (and) SCDF rescuers extricated the body using hydraulic rescue equipment. Projectiles were thrown at the SCDF rescuers while they were extricating the body. A total of nine SCDF vehicles were damaged in the incident," reported a spokesman to the local English daily
The SCDF had conveyed 18 casualties including four SCDF personnel to Tan Tock Seng Hospital reported,The Straits Times at 2:00am today morning.
The riot, involving some 400 people, broke out after the accident, although it is unclear what caused the mob to turn violent. Additionally at least four police patrol cars were overturned while an ambulance and two patrol cars were set on fire along with smashed windscreens and windows of a Traffic Police Expressway patrol car, a fifth police patrol car and an ambulance.
