Potential customers flooded Ford websites to design, specify and price nearly 500,000 new Ford Mustang models in the first month the car was available to order across Europe.
During the first week, more Mustang models were specified online than any other Ford vehicle. The websites, enabling customers to build and price a Mustang to a chosen specification, attracted more than 1.1 million visits from mid-January to mid-February.
Data for that period indicated that the new Mustang equipped with the 309bhp 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine accounted for half of all configurations. The other half was specified with the 412bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine.
Confirming European tastes for sports cars with accessible performance, the most popular specification overall was the EcoBoost-equipped model with a six-speed manual transmission, chosen for 37 percent of models configured. Manual transmissions accounted for two-thirds of models specified overall.
Of the five largest European sales markets - U.K., France, Germany, Italy and Spain - the powerful 5.0-litre V8 engine was the most popular in the U.K. (54 percent) and Germany (60 percent). The EcoBoost engine was most popular in Italy (61 percent), Spain (59 percent) and France (55 percent).
