New 1.2 litre TSI engine available for the Volkswagen Polo and Golf

The new 1.2 litre TSI engine produces 103bhp and 175Nm of torque, and will be fitted to the Polo, Golf and Golf Plus models. The engine is based on an aluminium crankcase and the re-tuned direct injection provides smooth power development, low consumption and low emissions.

The new engine marks Volkswagen's efforts in developing its TSI engine technology for smaller capacity cars. Volkswagen claims that TSI engines are highly efficient and low in emissions, by equipping the engines with a turbocharger.

The new 1.2 litre unit also uses friction optimisation and lightweight construction to keep weight down and add to the efficiency of the engine and cars. The bigger 1.4 litre TSI engine has already been awarded the "Engine of the Year" award three years in a row since 2006.
