Styled with elements from a sedan, coupe and their SUVs, BMW aims to create a new market segment with new the 5 Series GT, which they call a "progressive activity sedan" (PAS).
BMW's Head of Design, Adrian van Hooydonk, says the idea is to have the "luxury and space of a 7 Series level in the footprint of a 5 Series".
The new car, which also features a dual-opening boot lid system, gets plenty of styling influence from the X6 and the new 7 Series.
The range of engines will most likely be shared with the higher capacity models in the 5 Series' line-up.
