The Straits Times reported that French joint venture Veolia Transport RATP Asia (VTRA) is putting together a team to bid for the first package of bus routes that the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will tender later this year.
Mr. Emmanuel Vivant, Director of Business Development for VTRA, expects a bid manager to be identified in a few weeks. The bid manager will be based here permanently, and will draw on VTRA's resources in Australia, Britain, France and Asia to support the bid.
VTRA's parent companies - Veolia Transport and RATP Group - run transport operations around the globe, including buses in cities such as Perth, Melbourne, London and Nanjing.
VTRA is the latest operator to declare its interest in Singapore's bus industry - other interested parties include incumbents SBS Transit and SMRT, Australia's Tower Transit and local players such as Woodlands Transport.
This comes after the LTA announced last month that it will gradually adopt a contracting model, under which it will own all buses and depots, and invite operators to bid for 12 route packages with 300 to 500 buses each.
