There's now a new car in Polestar's lineup - the new Polestar 5, which numerically follows the brand's previous models (1,2,3 and 4).
First previewed to the world as the Precept Concept back in 2020, the new Polestar 5 is what the brand calls a performance grand tourer (GT).
The Polestar 5 will be initially offered with two variants - Dual Motor and Performance. The Dual Motor variant will push out 550kW and 812Nm of torque from its two motors, sending the car from 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds. The Performance naturally ramps things up another notch - 650kW, 1,015Nm of torque, and a century sprint time of 3.2 seconds. Both variants use the same 112kWh battery, with the Dual Motor claiming 670km of WLTP range, while the Performance will manage 565km. The 800V architecture means that maximum DC charging speed stands at 350kW, allowing the battery to be recharged from 10-80% in 22 minutes.
The Polestar 5 is also the first product that is fully developed in-house, and it features a bonded aluminium chassis called the Polestar Performance Architecture. This chassis is currently bespoke for this model, and is not shared with any other products across the wider Geely umbrella. The Performance model also features semi-active MagneRide dampers with electromagnetic control.
Standing just 1.42m tall, the Polestar is a sleek four-door GT that leans hard into its futuristic design
The Polestar 5 is 5,087mm long and 2,062mm wide, but stands at just 1,425mm tall (1,419mm for the Performance variant). Inspired by aviation, the car has a wing-like profile that emphasises its low-slung nature. Like on the Polestar 4, the Polestar 5 also does not have a rear windscreen. This allows the rear header structure to be moved backwards so that rear seat occupants have uncompromised headroom despited the sloping roofline. The rear of the car also features a stark-looking and aero-efficient lightbar.
The cabin features a mix of sustainable materials, as well as the option of Bridge of Weir Nappa leather. One of the sustainable materials used is the natural fibre in a Polestar signature weave. Developed by BComp as a sustainable alternative to carbon-fibre, it is made of flax and reinforced with ampliTex. Other recycled materials, from fishing nets and PET, are used for the carpets and headliner.
The car's front seats are designed in collaboration with Recaro, while the two rear seats follow the same bucket-like form design. Polestar calls the car a 4+1, but is primarily designed as a four-seater.
On the technology front, the car is fitted with a 14.5-inch centre display, which runs a Polestar-specific Android Automotive operating system. Audio comes courtesy of a 10-speaker Polestar High Performance Audio system or a 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system, and features Active Road Noise Cancellation. Expectedly, the car also gets the full suite of driver safety and assistance systems.
Polestar Singapore has indicated that the Polestar 5 will be an indent-only model, with orders slated to open in Q1 2026.
