Next-gen WRX may see groundbreaking electric turbocharger

According to reports, Subaru's next-generation model of the hero-like status WRX could see them employing a groundbreaking electric turbocharger. Details are scarce at present, but Drive says the system could be more powerful and efficient than a standard turbocharger. Not only that, the new electric turbocharger could also negate the need for complex piping.
While Subaru Australia spokesman David Rowley said it was too early to comment about the model, he said "Our understanding is that [WRX] will be completely distinctive from the current Impreza, it will look considerably different." He also hinted that there could be a "whole raft of technical refinements on WRX because by the time we see it, it will be some years old in terms of the maturity of Impreza."
The model is widely expected to be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine with approximately 270bhp. The WRX STI would likely see the same engine, albeit an increased output of more than 300bhp.
