The next California, set to arrive in 2014 or 2015, will arrive with a turbocharged variant of the 3.8-litre V8 that recently debuted in the form of the Maserati Quattroporte. Although the new engine will first appear in a Maserati, the automaker insists that the design and development is still uniquely Ferrari.
The output of the new engine has not been specificied but it is expected to match if not exceed the 490bhp output of the current California's 4.3-litre naturally aspirated V8. With the benefits of forced induction, the new model could well see an output of well over 500bhp.
The next generation California should be unveiled to the public as soon as late 2014, if all production milestones are met.
Ferrari is currently in the midst of developing the next generation model of the California, but has yet to finalise on the model's powertrain. A new report now suggests that the Italian automaker may be inclined towards a turbocharged V8 engine for the model.
