Nissan builds new mountain rescue X-Trail

After a Nissan Ariya completed a pole-to-pole expedition, Nissan is once again demonstrating the strength of its e-4orce all-wheel drive technology via an X-Trail on the ski slopes of Europe.
The vehicle, named the X-Trail Mountain Rescue, has been built to perform mountain rescue duties. The car thus gets its wheels replaced with snow tracks for the necessary traction on the slippery pistes, while its rear seats have also been removed to allow the installation of a stretcher for the delivery of injured skiers to a nearby medical facility, and to make space for a medical professional.
On the exterior, the rescue X-Trail gets a bespoke roof rack designed to carry an evacuation stretcher and snow shovels. The roof of the X-Trail also gets a siren, a flashing light bar, and extra lights. Along its flanks, the fenders of the car are also modified to accommodate the new tracks, and at the front, the bumper now carries a winch.
Both the front and rear bumpers also sport a reinforced towing hook, while footboards have been added to allow users to easily enter and exit the vehicle, given that it now rides 230mm taller than the regular Nissan X-Trail e-POWER.
Nissan states that its e-4orce all-wheel drive system is able to react to changing levels of grip at each wheel at up to 1,000 times quicker than a traditional all-wheel drive system, offering passengers peace of mind should they travel over wet, muddy, or snowy roads.
The X-Trail Mountain Rescue is supporting a campaign in five European ski resorts designed to promote courteous slope etiquette, following which, it will be displayed in a glass box at the popular Italian ski resort of Cervinia.
