Nissan U.K. to launch e-POWER tech on Qashqai crossover

Nissan U.K. has announced that it is launching the next generation of its unique e-POWER technology on the British-built Qashqai.
Comprehensively re-engineered for even better fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and elevated refinement, Nissan states that the new e-POWER system will further smoothen the transition from fuel towards zero emissions.
A brief recap for the uninitiated: With Nissan's e-POWER technology, the petrol engine is used only to generate electricity that is distributed directly to the electric motor to drive the wheels, as well as to charge the battery if needed.
In the latest-generation system, the electric motor, generator, inverter, reducer, and increaser are also integrated into a five-in-one powertrain unit, creating a compact and lighter package. Overall power is up by 11kW, at a maximum of 151kW, with the battery capacity unchanged at 2.1kWh.
Despite having a similar 1.5-litre turbo configuration as the outgoing version, the engine is all-new and is now dedicated to its application in e-POWER. A new, larger turbo has also been fitted, which also brings efficiency gains and a lower noise level.
Unlike traditional hybrids, the engine never powers the wheels in e-POWER models, making the drive feel entirely electric, with no gear shifts, no power lag, and minimal engine noise at low speeds. Yet, unlike a battery electric vehicle, refuelling takes place at any petrol station.
The latest Nissan Qashqai equipped with the new e-POWER technology will be available in European markets from September 2025. Rollout across Africa and Oceania will follow in the months ahead.
