Nissan has made minor design changes to transform the Mazda5 MPV into the Lafesta. The most noticeable difference is the restyled front design that features a new bonnet, headlights and bumpers, while the rear gets a new chrome strip between the taillights.
The new Nissan Lafesta Highway Star will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, and comes with a choice of two transmissions, a five-speed automatic for front-wheel-drive models, and a four-speed automatic for four-wheel-drive versions. Nissan aims to sell around 1,200 of the new Lafesta Highway Star in its domestic market monthly.

Under the agreement, Mazda supplies the 5 MPV to Nissan on an Original Equipment (OEM) basis, which is then converted by Nissan into the new Lafesta Highway Star. The announcement was made in January, and the new Lafesta Highway Star will be sold exclusively in Japan.
