"Juke brings a sense of adventure to the car market," said Andy Palmer, Senior Vice President, Product Planning, Nissan, "It's light, nimble, urban, reactive, qualities designed to grab a younger audience. It offers something entirely different to the traditional B-segment vehicles and cements Nissan as a car maker prepared to do something different."
The Juke is a cross between SUV and sports car, and measures 4000mm long, 1765mm wide and 1570mm high, with a wheelbase of 2500mm. The chunky wheels, wide tyres and higher ground clearance allude to the SUV factor, while the high waistline and a sloped roofline with a spoiler give it the sports car look. Design elements include the 370Z-inspired boomerang rear lights and the four separate front headlamps in front. There is also a choice of nine body colours for the Juke.
Despite its sporty pretensions, the Juke is a five-seater, and has a funky and upmarket interior with unique features such as a centre console that resembles a motorcycle fuel tank. The gear lever is placed elevated for easier shifting, while chrome finish is applied throughout the interior. There is also Nissan’s new Nissan Dynamic Control System (NDCS) that allows front passengers to access system information and control functions like climate control.
The Juke will have front-wheel-drive as standard, while Nissan’s All-Mode 4x4-i with torque vectoring technology for improved cornering is also available for four-wheel-drive models. Nissan will offer three engines for the Juke, one diesel and two petrol units.
The base 1.6-litre normally-aspirated petrol engine produces 117bhp while the turbocharged 1.6 has 190bhp and 240Nm of torque. The diesel unit is a 1.5-litre dCi common rail with 110bhp and 240Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed CVT with manual mode.
