No longer the UrbanRebel: Say hello to the Cupra Raval
18 May 2023|1,961 views
If you've ever felt that 'UrbanRebel' felt too concept-like as a name to fit a roadgoing Cupra car, you're in luck.
As part of its booth at the recent Automobile Barcelona, Cupra revealed that the impending electric performance car will, in fact, not be named as such when it finally enters production. Instead, the car will henceforth be known as the Cupra Raval.
In essence, 'Raval' isn't actually too far off 'UrbanRebel'. It's the name of a vibrant neighbourhood in the city of Barcelona, and was actually teased in the alphabet campaign that saw Catalonian artist Rosalia roped in just a while back.
Cupra is still ostensibly aiming for a younger audience with the Raval, with CEO of Seat and Cupra, Wayne Griffiths, going so far as to call it an "urban, rebellious and 100% electric car", with its own character and linked to 'Gen Z'. The hatch marks the second official electric performance car from Cupra, after the Cupra Born, and will be produced in Martorell from 2025.
News of the car's official name came as parent company Seat announced its best financial first quarter in history. Alongside the Raval, Cupra also presented visitors of Automobile Barcelona with a public display of the Tavascan for the first time, as well as the DarkRebel, its latest "digital show car".
