Seat and Cupra move one step closer towards launch of Raval
29 Mar 2026|28 views
Seat and Cupra have started the series production of battery systems at its plant in Martorell, Spain. This milestone represents the final step before series production of the Cupra Raval, the first model of the Brand Group Core's Electric Urban Car Family that will hit European streets in Q3 2026.
The batteries assembled at the plant will also be used in the Volkswagen ID. Polo, the other electric model that will be manufactured in Martorell. The start of series production of these electric models will transform the plant into a flexible automotive powerhouse, fully prepared for the new era of mobility.
At the core of the battery systems assembled in Martorell is the Group's Unified Cell, which represents a global battery technology platform designed to deliver scalability and flexibility across brands, regions and vehicle segments. Within each battery system, the cells provide the core energy storage capability, while the electronic components manage and control the system’s overall operation. The E Box, considered the brain of the battery, is manufactured entirely at Seat and Cupra’s El Prat Components facility.
After the battery system is fully assembled and sealed, it undergoes final quality checks on the benches to ensure maximum safety and performance. At the final step, the completed battery systems are then automatically transported via a 600m bridge to the Cupra Raval and Volkswagen ID. Polo production line, ensuring a continuous supply fully coordinated with the pace of manufacturing.
With the start of production at the battery system assembly plant, Seat and Cupra are making a decisive contribution to strengthening Europe's battery industry, a key step towards making electric mobility accessible across the continent.
