Only partial restoration of train services for EWL by 27 Sep

The LTA and SMRT have released a joint announcement regarding the disruption of MRT services along the East-West Line.
Both organisations state that extensive damage was found on both the track and trackside equipment, which originated from a defective train axle box. This axle box caused one bogie to come off the running rail between Dover and Clementi stations.
Overnight checks found a total of 34 rail breaks across a total of 1.6km of track between the Clementi and Dover stations, and damage to three point machines that are used to divert the train to different tracks, as well as the third rail that supplies power and a host of power cables and rail clips.
Both organisations add that SMRT engineers and technicians have worked through the night of 25 September 2024 to restore and replace the damage equipment, and that works are still ongoing. The LTA and SMRT add that all Kawasaki Heavy Industries trains put in service today have passed the Axle Box functionality checks.
SMRT states that it will continue to operate shuttle train services between Buona Vista and Queenstown stations; and between Jurong East and Boon Lay stations. It has also deployed 80 double-deck buses on free bridging services from Buona Vista to Jurong East. Close to 620 ground staff from the LTA, SMRT, SBST Tower Transit, and Police Officers from TransCom, Traffic Police and Land Divisions have also been deployed to manage crowds onsite since this morning's peak.
More pertinent to most, we think, is the fact that train services are expected to only be partially restored come 27 September 2024, with single line train shuttle service set to be available every 20 minutes between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations. Train service will not be restored for the rest of 26 September 2024. Both the LTA and SMRT state that their priority is to resume train service as soon as possible.
