02 Sep 2025|50 views
As part of its initiative, SMRT and the Central Singapore Community Development Council (CS CDC) have unveiled giant chess sets at both the Bras Basah and Botanic Gardens MRT stations on the Circle Line.
This first-of-its-kind initiative in Singapore's public transport network reflects SMRT's continued commitment to making its stations more vibrant, providing spaces where people can connect in a fun and light-hearted manner. The giant chess sets will be available to the public from August 2025 for at least a year.
This latest initiative is part of SMRT's Communities in Station programme, which aims to enhance vibrancy and enrich the commuter experience across its network. Other ongoing initiatives include the placement of specially commissioned pianos and community harp at selected MRT stations, inviting aspiring and talented musicians to delight fellow commuters with spontaneous musical performances.
Sports enthusiasts may also enjoy free-to-use table tennis tables for active play and friendly competition at the Esplanade and Marina Bay stations on the Circle Line.
