Opel Astra gets new Intelli-Air air quality system

Opel has rolled out a new air quality system which it is calling Intelli-Air.

The system combines air and particulate filters as well as an air quality monitoring system, to ensure that the interior air of the Astra remains as clean as possible. The air monitoring system will draw in exterior air when air in the cabin becomes stale or tainted, and recirculate interior air if it detects that exterior air quality is poor, so as to stop pollutants from entering.

Passengers in the Astra will also be able to see this themselves, as the Intelli-Air will inform them of the air cabin air quality via the car's colour touchscreen. This will display a car-shaped emoji that changes colour depending on the standard of the air in the interior.

The use of both particulate and activated carbon combination filters by the system will also keep particles out the interior, and filter out odours and gases such as ozone, while preventing nearly all pollen from entering the cabin. These filter materials are additionally water-repellent, necessary to ensure they do not freeze in winter or harbour bacteria.
