The Flextreme GT/E is an extended-range hybrid car that can go from 0-100km/h in under 9 seconds, and reach a top speed of 200km/h. Opel did not reveal details about the engine, but would only say that the car can produce 370Nm of torque. The Flextreme GT/E is underpinned by the same powertrain as the Chevrolet Volt hybrid car, and its European cousin, the Opel Ampera.
Running on electric power alone, the Flextreme GT/E has a range of 60km, using up just 1.6 litres of fuel per 100km. This is helped by the car's drag co-efficient figure of 0.22, thanks to the active aerodynamics utilized at speeds above 50 km/h.
The Flextreme GT/E measures 1300mm high and 4700mm long, but Opel says that the five-door coupe concept should feature a comfortable amount of cabin space. Exterior styling elements such as the wing-shaped lights and the Corvette-inspired grille points towards the future look of Opel vehicles. The concept also features LED headlights, an elongated nose, low hood, and swept back arches, as well as 21-inch alloys.
"The Flextreme GT/E concept shows the shape of things to come from Opel," says Opel executive Frank Weber. "Bold, expressive and highly efficient, it represents the product strategy we will apply to all our future vehicles, large and small, across all market segments."
