The monstrous Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak purpose built racer re-wrote records at the recent Pikes Peak Hill Climb event and will attempt to climb the much tamer but equally chllenging 1.87km long Goodwood hill. Powered by a twin-turbo V6 endurance-racing petrol engine, the car with 875bhp boasts more power than a Formula One racing car and by tipping the scales at just 875kg, it has a power-to-weight ratio of 1:1. The car is equipped with an all-wheel drive system and an aerodynamic enhancing package.
It will be driven at the Goodwood Festival of Speed by Peugeot Sport test driver, Gregory Guilvert, and will be joined in the Cathedral Paddock by the 205 T16 and 405 T15 Pikes Peak cars.
Besides the Pikes Peak winning racer, Peugeot is also demonstrating a couple of significant vehicles dynamically up the famous hillclimb - starting with the alluring Onyx concept.
The Onyx concept is a supercar that breaks the traditional mold with superb authenticity, innovative use of materials in its construction (copper, carbon fibre, felt and newspaper wood) bundled with an impressive performance.
A mid-mounted 3.7-litre V8 HDi FAP diesel-electric hybrid power unit developed with the expertise of Peugeot Sport powers the car and the experience acquired from racetracks the world over.
Also gracing the event will be the 2014 Peugeot RCZ R - the culmination of an evolutionary product journey from original RCZ Concept to production vehicle, then into a three-times class-winning endurance race car that inspired the road-going RCZ R. It will be powered by a powerful 1.6-litre THP engine with over 260bhp, making it the most powerful production model in Peugeot's history. Besides power, its efficiency will be a benchmark with power/capacity among the highest in the world for production vehicles at over 160bhp/litre.
