Porsche has unveiled a special TAG Heuer x Porsche - Legends of Panamericana Sonderwunsch project to mark both the 70 years since the Porsche 550 Coupe took part in the spectacular Carrera Panamericana and the 60 years since Jack Heuer presented a chronograph wristwatch designed specifically for racing drivers, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph.
Two examples of the TAG Heuer x Porsche - Legends of Panamericana Sonderwunsch have been built. Both cars are based on the 718 Cayman GT4 RS but get a host of design elements that reference the long connection that the two companies have to the Carrera Panamericana race.
These touches include the use of racing numbers 152 and 154, painted onto the doors and roofs of the cars. These numbers appear atop a Le Mans Silver Metallic exterior finish, which is also used for various components of both cars including the panels of the air intakes at the front and side, as well as the carbon-weave parts.
Both cars also sport the TAG Heuer logo, most prominently on the bonnet, but also on their air filter boxes (visible through the rear window), as well as on the wheel hub covers of the central lock rims.
Car number 154 comes with a stopwatch module that was designed and made by TAG Heuer especially for the project and will not be available for purchase
Complimenting this touch is the use of a Pegasus motif which appears on the front-left wing of car number 152 and on the rear-left wheel arch of car number 154, a reminder of the fact that the 550 Spyder that Porsche entered in the Carrera Panamericana was one of the first racing cars with advertising from sponsors. The winged horse used to be part of the Mobil One logo, and Porsche Tequipment is now offering an original version of this Pegasus as a sticker for all Porsche customers.
In the cabin, the cars get Guards Red leather seats. These feature the lettering and the stylised racing driver cap of the Carrera Panamericana logo on their headrests. The cars also feature the use of tricoloured cross-stitching in the colours of the Mexican flag and the TAG Heuer logo on the steering wheel rim and the dashboard.
Car number 154 also gets a specially-designed TAG Heuer stopwatch module in the centre console that houses a clock that displays the time in the typical Heuer Carrera Design, as well as a stopwatch with a scale that helps the driver to maintain the average speed often prescribed for rallies.
