Porsche has revealed a new twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine that is set to power future incarnations of its Panamera Turbo and Cayenne Turbo models.
The new 4.0-litre unit was unveiled at the Vienna Motor Symposium, and will also feature in other Volkswagen Group models from Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini. It forms part of a modular range of V6 and V8 units developed in a joint venture between Porsche and Audi.
The new Porsche engine produces 542bhp and 769Nm of torque, 29bhp more than the twin-turbocharged 4.8-litre V8 powerplant it replaces.
The new Porsche-engineered V8 is also destined to power a wide range of models across the Volkswagen Group as part of a cost-cutting initiative aimed at reducing engine development and production costs. As well as appearing in the new Porsche Panamera and Cayenne, the 4.0-litre unit is also expected to see service in the Audi A6, the A8, the Q7 and the Q8, the Lamborghini Urus, the Bentley Bentayga and the Continental.
