In the past weekend, auction house Gooding & Company fetched more than US$39 million from the auction of vehicles in Arizona. Among the fleet stood one that was above the rest – a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing. The 300 SL, nicknamed 'Gullwing' due to their side-ward swinging doors, is one of the most iconic models ever produced by Mercedes-Benz. Moreover, this example is one of the 29 constructed out of aluminium.
The car was valued between US$2.5 million to US$3 million, but went for a record US$4.62 million at the auction.
