Vettel, who managed an impressive pole position in qualifying ahead of Brawn GP's Rubens Barrichello, dominated the race virtually from start to finish, even setting the fastest lap to complete a fantastic day for the young German.
With Vettel leaving the rest of the grid in his dust, the battle was on for second, and it was Vettel's teammate Mark Webber who eventually came up on top after the first round of pit stops, as the Red Bull showed its superiority over the Brawn, with Webber pulling away from Barrichello once he got second place.
Button had a weekend to forget, never really getting to grips with his car as he struggled to qualify in sixth, and then dropping all the way to ninth right at the start. He managed a late fight-back though as Felipe Massa and Nico Rosberg, ahead of him struggled in the closing stages in fourth and fifth positions, but Button could only come home in sixth, his lowest finish of the season. Jarno Trulli of Toyota and Kimi Raikkonen in his Ferrari rounded off the point scorers in seventh and eighth respectively.
Both McLarens once again had poor weekends, with Lewis Hamilton finishing in 16th place and Hekki Kovalainen retiring after being bumped from behind by Toro Rosso's Sebastian Bourdais.
Brawn is still leading the Constructor's Championship with 105 points, with Red Bull second on 74.5, and Toyota a further 40 points back in third. Button still leads the Driver's Championship with 64, ahead of his teammate Barrichello who has 41, and Vettel's win puts him to within two points of the Brazilian in third place. Webber lies in fourth with 35.5 points.
