Toyota's Connected in Mobility champions the power of choice

It seems likely that Singapore is fast accelerating into a more electrified future - all in the name of sustainability.
With the Green Plan 2030, Sun Xueling's promise that every HDB town will have at least one EV fast-charging hub by the end of 2027, and Sgcarmart's recent Beyond Motion event, it's safe to say that this may come sooner than we think.
And now, Toyota has also thrown its hat into the mix with its own Connected in Mobility event.
Held at the Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza, this showcase will run from 22 to 24 May 2026, from 11:00am to 10:00pm, and invites the public to explore a diverse mobility ecosystem designed to meet the evolving needs of Singaporeans. Admission is free for all.
But before the formalities commence, we sat down to have a quick chat with Ng Khee Siong, Managing Director of Borneo Motors Singapore (BMS), to learn more about the thought processes and planning that went on behind the scenes during the making of this event.
First things first, fans of Toyota will be glad to know that Connected in Mobility will not be a one-time event. Khee Siong says it will be more of a journey, where the brand will find opportunities to host more showcases, exhibitions, roadshows, and motor show appearances.
And with Toyota's CSR activities, as well as other forms of associations with either government agencies or education institutions, BMS plans to develop an "ecosystem" to continue to raise its (and Toyota's) brand presence still.
BMS's partners were also present at the event to support Toyota's broader vision of connected mobility
So, will there be anything more permanent from BMS in the future? Khee Siong says that there will definitely be more to come from the brand and assures us that although the shape and form may differ, the message will remain the same.
Given that Connected in Mobility is a pretty big event, it wouldn't be feasible to host one of this scale every month. What he means is more of sustaining Toyota's presence, either through road shows or collaborations with its partners like Shell and SP, to name a few.
The bZ4X Touring and Urban Cruiser both made their local debuts at the event, with further details of the vehicles to be released in due time
Khee Siong also hopes that eventgoers will recognise Toyota's belief that the future of mobility is not defined by a single solution, but by providing people with the power of choice. What this ultimately means is that for drivers who aren't as aggressive on mileage, an EV may better suit their needs. But for frequent travellers to Malaysia, a hybrid may better serve this purpose.
And the showcase of the all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser and Toyota bZ4X Touring at this event also strengthens this commitment. The two cars have not been launched here in Singapore as yet and BMS has yet to confirm the specifications for the models headed here, but we understand that those interested in either of these two vehicles will be able to get their hands on more information real soon, so stay tuned for the very latest news from us right here!
Toyota has also partnered with Shye, a local singer-songwriter, to be the face of its Move Your World Beat installation at the Connected in Mobility event, where she will present a sample of an original track (produced by Shye herself) using acoustic samples recorded directly from the bZ4X that are blended with guzheng-inspired guitar elements.
And from what we're hearing, the full song will only be released in November 2026 in Japan, so fans of the musician won't have to wait long to enjoy the fruits from her exclusive collaboration.
But that's not all that awaits event attendees - there's also a HEV & BEV Education Zone, which features a hybrid cut-car exhibit developed in collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic, as well as an augmented reality experience to help visitors better understand electrified drivetrain technology.
And with the inclusion of a Children's Play Zone, this event is also one for all ages. Created in partnership with SP Group, this allows younger visitors to explore different energy solutions through an interactive driving track.
Toyota has also partnered with Brompton, the latter of which will be showcasing how different modes of transport - such as cycling and driving - can work together to create a more seamless urban journey. And in the spirit of giving, both brands are also launching an initiative to collect and refurbish pre-loved bicycles, which will be donated to various beneficiaries such as the Singapore Children's Society and Autism Resource Centre.
In addition, to experience all that Connected in Mobility has to offer, eventgoers are encouraged to pop by during the late evening on the aforementioned dates to take in the daily Nightly Waterfront Light Show, which is a choreographed performance of light, music, and motion set against the Marina Bay Skyline. This will run nightly from 08:15pm to 09:15pm.
