Renault to put the Twizy Zero Emissions Concept into production

The Twizy is the next of the concept cars that Renault unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September that has been confirmed for production. The Twizy will be produced at Renault's Spanish factory in Valladolid, 150km north-west of Madrid. This plant was chosen as Renault expects the biggest market for the Twizy to be Western Europe, and production is set to begin in 2011.

The Twizy features a pearlescent white body coating, as well as "luminous matrix displays", which can function as either headlights or taillights. The displays can also communicate emotions to other drivers, such as creating a smiley face.

The concept car measures 2300mm in length and 1130mm wide, and is powered by a 20bhp electric motor with 70Nm of torque. Current comes from lithium-ion battery pack installed under the seats and range is said to be 100 km. The Twizy is said to be able to reach a top speed of 75km/h.
