To be based on its existing A5 coupe, the new Quattro is said to have styling inspired by the original, and will be focused on weight, or the lack of it. Weight saving materials such as aluminium and polycarbonate are expected to feature heavily, as well as thinner glass.
Light but large (19 or 20-inches) wheels, ceramic brakes and possibly an active rear spoiler are among the features planned, while magnetic-ride suspension will adjust dynamically according to the road conditions and driver input, with Audi's Quattro sport differential provides traction.
Engine choices are still as yet undecided, with Audi's 4.2 litre V8, a twin-turbo V6 with 425bhp, twin-turbo 2.0 litre four with 300bhp or the TT-RS' 2.5 litre five all being touted as options. There is even talk of a hybrid version with a 30km electric-only range, although such a model will only arrive after the launch of the base models.
The new Quattro is set to slot between the S5 and R8 in the Audi range, with pricing to indicate likewise.
