Rolls-Royce release details of the Ghost
22 Jul 2009|3,341 views
The new sedan will have a 6.6 litre turbocharged V12, producing 563bhp and 780Nm of torque. Mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox from ZF, the Ghost will be able to out-accelerate its bigger Phantom sibling, reaching 100km/h from standstill in just 4.7 seconds, up to its electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.
Being the entry level Roll-Royce model, the Ghost will naturally be smaller than the Phantom. Compared to the Phantom's massive 5834mm length, the Ghost will measure in at 'just' 5399mm, and will be 1948mm wide and 1550mm tall. The wheelbase measures 3295mm, ensuring more than enough space for five adults.
The Ghost will also boast of the very latest technological advancements, notably to its chassis engineering. Chief among which is a new four corner air suspension system that is matched to multi-link aluminium front and rear axle geometry. A new chassis management system will also be fitted and is designed to control the car's anti-roll stabilization and the suspension stiffness to ensure the best possible comfort for occupants.
The ultra-sensitive air suspension is able to detect the slightest of changes and modify accordingly to compensate. The on-board computer system reads multiple inputs from sensors around the car - the dampers alone making individual load calculations every 2.5 milliseconds. The air suspension system also incorporates a lift and kneel function, raising or lowering the car by 25mm for those steep driveways.
The Ghost is expected to be launched in Europe in late 2009, with deliveries to other markets like the US and Asia Pacific to begin in the second quarter of 2010.
