Rolls-Royce is at it again, revealing yet another bespoke commission. This one is named 'The Pearl Cullinan' and has been built as a surprise birthday gift by one customer to mark his father's 90th birthday, as well as a celebration of the beauty of mother-of-pearl.
The exterior of this bespoke Cullinan thus comes with a Bespoke Pearl Rose finish inspired by the colour of the owner's most prized pearl in his extensive, world-class collection. Rolls-Royce states that this colour is reserved exclusively for this motor car, and will not be available to any other client in the future.
This paint is made using carefully selected pigments to replicate a delicate hint of pink rarely found in natural pearls, and is said to have been pre-checked under daylight simulation lamps at Goodwood, before being sent to the client to ensure the colour was correct, even under the Middle Eastern sun. The finish has also underwent extensive technical testing to ensure it will remain unaltered by heat or UV light over its lifetime.
This exterior is paired with a single coachline, applied by hand in Rose Gold paint, to match the rose gold-plated Spirit of Ecstasy mascot.
On the inside, The Pearl Cullinan features a leather interior that comes in two colours. At the front, where the father prefers to travel as a passenger, the seats are finished in his favourite Cashmere Grey. The rear seats, meanwhile, come trimmed in Ardent Red, a nod to the colour of the material on which pearls are presented to customers to best present their subtle colour variation. Burr walnut veneer has also been employed in the bespoke Cullinan, to mirror the wooden presentation boxes in which pearls are traditionally handed over to customers upon purchase.
The car also gets a bespoke Starlight Headliner that shows the sky as it appeared on the night and at the very place the commissioning client's father was born.
However, the true highlights of the bespoke car are its picnic tables. Fitted to the rear of the front passenger seats, these feature a circular pattern inspired by traditional Arabic design. Each tabletop is said to be inlaid with a total of 1,351 pieces of mother-of-pearl, every one individually selected and placed by hand in the surrounding burr walnut marquetry and sealed with clear lacquer. The natural shade and colour differences in both the mother-of-pearl and the wood mean each tabletop is a unique work of art.
Finishing the cabin is a burr walnut fascia that incorporates an exquisite mother-of-pearl inlay inspired by traditional Middle Eastern art, with the Arabic word for 'father' inlaid in stainless steel at its centre. A bespoke dashboard clock also features here, set in a mother-of-pearl surround with its dial and hands in rose gold while its centre rotary dial is finished with mother-of-pearl.
