Skoda Auto continues to invest in solar power

Skoda Auto has taken another step towards achieving carbon neutrality of its Czech plants, by commissioning three rooftop solar systems at its main plant in Mlada Boleslav and the Skoda Parts Centre logistics hub.
Covering a total of 10,000m2 (equivalent to more than 15 tennis courts), the new solar system is expected to generate more than 2GWh of emissions-free electricity annually, enough to charge approximately 25,000 examples of the Skoda Enyaq 85 (read our review of the Skoda Enyaq here).
Skoda first installed solar modules at its Auto Service Centre in Kosmonosy in 2019. Covering an area of roughly 2,200m2, this first system generates more than 450MWh annually. Skoda states this output meet almost 17% of the service centre's energy needs.
The firm also houses a the photovoltaic system at its Aurangabad plant in Pune, India, which generated more than 1,440MWh in 2022. This system was expanded in February 2023, and can now produce up to 26,600MWh of electricity annually, covering up to 30% of the site's electricity consumption. Skoda is aiming to achieve CO2-neutral production at its three factories in the Czech Republic by 2030.
