Skoda Motorsport and Kreisel Electric have developed a fully electric rally car - the Skoda RE-X1 Kreisel. Based on a Skoda Fabia bodyshell, the vehicle is powered by an 860V all-electric drivetrain. It will see its debut during the Austrian Rally Championship planned for July 2021.
When Kreisel Electric, supplier of the mandatory hybrid technology for the 2022 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) was looking for partners to develop an all-electric rally car, Skoda Motorsport saw an interesting opportunity. Building on its extensive know-how, the Czech automaker adapted a Skoda Fabia Rally2 evo chassis to be fitted with Kreisel's electric powertrain.
With more than 400 units sold and numerous victories worldwide, the rally version of the Skoda Fabia is the most successful car of its category. The Skoda RE-X1 Kreisel concept car not only offers all the setup possibilities of the famed Skoda Fabia Rally2 platform, but also contributes towards sustainability.
The Kreisel Electric engineered e-motor delivers a peak power output of 348bhp and an astounding maximum torque of 600Nm. In comparison, the Skoda Fabia Rally2 evo produces just 287bhp and 425Nm of torque.
The RE-X1 Kreisel is built on a modified Skoda Fabia Rally2 evo platform, which is itself based on the award-winning family car. The suspension has been modified to integrate the battery into the car's structure, which also necessitated a major modification of the bodyshell floor.
Baumschlager Rallye & Racing, the project's partner for the testing program, has put the Skoda through its paces on gravel as well, in anticipation of the subsequent 2021 Austrian Rally Championship.
