Stellantis and Foxconn announced the signing of a non-binding memorandum of understanding to form Mobile Drive, a joint venture. It will aim to create innovative in-vehicle user experiences enabled by advanced consumer electronics.
Stellantis is the successor of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the PSA Group, which merged in January 2021. Its brands include Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Opel, and Peugeot. Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry, is a Taiwanese electronics contract manufacturer. It assembles products such as Apple's iPhone 12 and Sony's PlayStation 4.
Mobile Drive will bring together Stellantis' automotive engineering expertise and Foxconn's extensive know-how in the production of hardware and software for consumer electronics. This unique combination will position Mobile Drive at the forefront of global efforts to deliver a new class of in-cabin information and entertainment capabilities.
All development by Mobile Drive will be co-owned by Stellantis and Foxconn. The Netherlands-based joint venture will operate as an automotive components supplier, selling software solutions and related hardware for Stellantis and other interested automakers.
Mobile Drive will focus primarily on infotainment, telematics and cloud service platform development. Other areas of exploration include artificial intelligence-based applications and smart cockpit integration.
Foxconn and Stellantis previously partnered in the creation of the Airflow Vision design concept, displayed at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2020. It is the world's most influential technology event.
