Subaru to officially launch new Legacy at Frankfurt

The Legacy will be launched in two body-styles, a sedan and an estate, and will boast a range of new technologies.

Among them is a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) developed by Subaru, called the Lineartronic, which is said to improve fuel economy by up to 5.9% for the sedan and 6.9% for the estate compared to the previous models.

In addition, Subaru's new boxer diesel, which is the first mass-produced diesel-powered boxer engine, will be made available on the Legacy. All petrol non-turbo models comply with the latest Euro 5 emissions standards.

The sedan version will have a choice of three engines, a 2.0 litre petrol engine, a 2.5 litre petrol boxer engine, and a 2.0 litre diesel boxer engine. The 2.5 litre petrol will be made available in limited markets only.

The Outback version, which is a slightly raised estate version with increased ground clearance, will also have a choice of three engines, a 2.5 litre petrol engine, a 2.0 litre diesel, and a range-topping 3.6 litre six-cylinder boxer engine.

Both sedan and estate are now bigger, to provide more interior room for passengers. The sedan's length has been increased by 65mm, while the wagon is now 55mm longer. Both cars have extended their wheelbases by 80mm for improved rear legroom.
