Mercedes-Benz has revealed the first information of the MBUX infotainment system set to feature in the next E-Class.
Top highlight for the new system is the fact that it will now feature a new compatibility layer that allows the installation of third-party apps. App already set to feature with the car now include Angry Birds, the Webex office application, Zoom, the Vivaldi browser, and yes, TikTok will also be supported.
A new selfie and video camera (part of the optional MBUX Superscreen) on top of the dashboard will facilitate the taking of photos and allow users to join in on video calls for these apps.
A new ZYNC entertainment portal will also offer video streaming, on-demand content, interactive experiences, local video programmes, sports, news, games and more on the central and passenger displays, via one user interface.
Supporting these options in the next Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be an entertainment package that includes the Mercedes me connect services, and a data package from a third-party provider. A 5G communication module will also be utilised in selected markets.
Also set to enhance the interior ambience is a new Active Ambient Lighting with Sound Visualisation system, which Mercedes states will allow music and sound from films or apps to not only be heard, but also felt, thanks to resonating transducers in the optional Burmester 4D surround sound system, and seen, via an Active Ambient Lighting light strip.
The front passenger can also get, as an added option, his/her own screen to watch dynamic content such as TV or video streams.
Mercedes-Benz states that the first models of the new generation E-Class will hit European markets come mid-2023, with market launch set to start with the saloon model.
