Mercedes-AMG has further developed its GLE 53 family with the GLE 53 4MATIC+ and the GLE 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ models, introducing what is described as a more "emotional" design, enhanced equipment, and state-of-the-art technology.
The models' revised front section sees a modified AMG specific grille, newly designed air intakes, and characteristic LED lighting. This doesn't stop at the rear, with newly shaped taillights sporting the star design and the AMG typical exhaust system with dual tailpipe trim.

A wide selection of exclusive paint finishes are also available, including for the first time as AMG standard finish, the new Manufaktur special colour "hightech silver mango". The Manufaktur programme also offers exclusive paint finishes such as Patagonia red metallic, Ireland medium green metallic, or mystic blue metallic.
Inside, the AMG models see extensive standard equipment paired with a choice of four leather variants, from Nappa leather to Manufaktur Nappa leather exclusive in tartufo brown, carmine red, or yacht blue. AMG specific trim elements as well as the optionally available Microcut microfibre headliner emphasise its sporty appearance.
And the MB.OS operating system, with its high-res display, is able to deliver all relevant information as well as ensuring that AMG specific displays (the tachometer or the vehicle's performance data) are always in view.

But that’s not all for the new models' interiors; the flat-bottom AMG Performance steering wheel now features a haptic rocker and roller, and is also available with various high-quality rim materials, ranging from supple leather to lightweight carbon fibre and grippy Microcut microfibre. Using the steering wheel paddles, the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission can be shifted manually, while two round AMG steering‑wheel buttons enable control of key driving functions and drive programmes.
Now on to the fun part; the powertrain. At the heart of both models is the brand's enhanced 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine, delivering 443bhp and a maximum torque of 600Nm. The output differs between both models, though. The GLE 53 4MATIC+ with 48V technology coughs up 465bhp (torque also goes up to 640Nm with overboost for 10 seconds), while the GLE 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ plug-in hybrid (400V technology) offers 577bhp (combined with a 135kW electric motor) and 750Nm of torque.
The GLE 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ also offers pure electric driving speeds of up to 140km/h and a century sprint timing of 4.5 seconds. And with a 60kW DC outlet, the battery can be recharged from 10-80% in around 20 minutes. Additional modes for electric driving and battery management are also available for the plug-in hybrid model.

Engine measures include a new cylinder head with improved intake and exhaust ports and a new intake camshaft. Added to this are a new intake system with larger volume and, for the 48V version, a new front cooler.
An electric auxiliary compressor and second-gen integrated starter-generator, which provides short boosts of power and torque, are only available in the 48V version, as well as the AMG Active Ride Control suspension with active roll stabilisation, which reduces body roll on corners and a more precise tuning of steering response.
This latest unveiling is just one of many from a renewed product offensive from Mercedes-Benz, which has also seen the likes of the updated S-Class, and new generations of the GLB, GLE, GLS, and GLC making their debuts.
