Just last September, Ferrari introduced the new Portofino M, to the world through an online premiere of the car. Today, Ferrari's new 2+ GT spider has reached Singapore's shores and is currently displayed within the showroom of Ital Auto, the official importer for Ferrari cars here.
The original Ferrari Portofino replaced the California T in 2017, taking on the mantle of the Prancing Horse's 2+ GT spider offering. The 'M' moniker in today's Portofino M stands for 'Modificata', which in Ferrari nomenclature refers to cars that have undergone an evolution that significantly boosted their performance.
Indeed, the Portofino M has received upgrades in multiple aspects. The 3.9-litre turbocharged V8 engine has been tuned to produce 20bhp more than the Portofino, putting out 612bhp and 760Nm of torque.
The Portofino's seven-speed dual clutch transmission has also been upgraded with an eight-speed unit. This refreshed powertrain allows the Portofino M to complete the century sprint in merely 3.45 seconds and all the way to a top speed in excess of 320km/h.
In line with Ferrari's 'zero turbo lag' concept, the Portofino M is designed to deliver immediate throttle response throughout the rev range. It also boasts Variable Boost Management, a software developed by Ferrari to adjust the torque delivered to suit each gear for powerful acceleration and maximum smoothness.
The Portofino M is also equipped with a five-position Manettino, a first for a Ferrari GT spider. This allows the driver to choose from five different drive modes on the steering wheel, with the introduction of the Race position.
On the exterior, the new Ferrari Portofino M features a new wraparound front bumper that incorporates imposing, sculptural air intakes to create a stunning and aggressive front end.
The rear of the car is also updated, and is now more compact thanks to a new exhaust system that removed the silencer assembly. The rear bumper now features a streamlined design, working well with the overall aesthetics of the car.
The Portofino M takes just 14 seconds for its hard top to be retracted, and when done, it reveals its stylish GT soul with an exceptionally designed cabin. The interior features a multi-level dashboard structure comprising an upper half, an intermediate gap to lighten the perceived mass of the lower half, resulting in a sleek and compact look.
At the centre is a 10.25-inch touchscreen marking the centre of the symmetrical dashboard. Situated in direct view of the driver is a digital cluster with dual TFT displays arranged around an analogue rev counter. On the passenger side, an optional dedicated capacitive display on the dashboard is linked to the main screen, providing all information related to the car.
Orders for the new Portofino M has been taken since the global launch of the car last year, and interested customers can still place an order for the car.
