The Race to Zero: Polestar joins the UN-backed Exponential Roadmap initiative
16 Jun 2021|821 views
Polestar was founded as a standalone car manufacturer in 2017 with the purpose of accelerating the shift to sustainable mobility. To this end, the Swedish automaker recently joined the global Exponential Roadmap Initiative.
The initiative connects innovative and transformative businesses committed to taking action in line with the 1.5-degree climate target set forth by the United Nations. This involves restricting the global temperature increase to within 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels, holding off some of the worst impacts of climate change.
Joining the initiative, Polestar commits to going above and beyond the decarbonisation of its own products and value chain emissions. The brand aims to integrate climate action deeply into its business strategy while working to influence wider society towards zero emissions.
Polestar's most important mission is to scale up its production exponentially, enabling a faster phasing out of fossil fuel vehicles. Polestar also commits towards minimal manufacturing carbon footprints.
In April 2021, Polestar announced the Polestar 0 project, an ambitious project to create a truly climate neutral car by 2030 without the use of ad hoc offsetting measures like tree-planting. The company aims to be fully climate neutral across its value chain by 2040.
