Toyota Gazoo Racing builds a rally Hilux for the 2022 Dakar

Toyota Gazoo Racing has revealed its all new Dakar challenger, the GR DKR Hilux T1+.
Competing in the 2022 Dakar, the GR DKR Hilux T1+ has completed its prototype stage and will continue to be developed and refined in weeks leading up to the rally, which starts on 2 January in Saudi Arabia.
It delivers more torque than the rally Hilux's previous engine, and also saves weight. Overall vehicle weight has been increased, however, to two tonnes, in line with new racing regulations.
Engine performance is also governed by official FIA regulations, so maximum power and torque are from the racing Hilux stands at 400bhp and 660Nm respectively. These figures are claimed by Toyota to be well within the capabilities of the production engine.
The suspension travel for the GR DKR Hilux T1+ has also been increased compared to the previous Dakar vehicle, which will allow it to make the most of the performance of the new tyres, which have increased in both size and width.
Those tyres are fitted to new aluminium wheels which have been left in their natural metal finish, to allow better heat radiation.
The Toyota GR DKR Hilux T1+ will also race with the latest Toyota Gazoo Racing livery, aligned with that used by Toyota in the World Endurance Championship and World Rally Championship. In this way, the new car, which will also compete in the 2022 FIA World Rally-Raid Championship, is clearly identifiable as part of Toyota Gazoo Racing's world championship race car line.
The famous GR lettering style has now been adopted by all three World Championship teams, reinforcing the link between Toyota's race cars, and its new stable of GR road-going sports models.
