Toyota Gazoo Racing has graced the GR Corolla with a host of improvements with this new, updated iteration.
This updated model now comes with new front and rear shock absorbers complete with built-in rebound springs, to give the it improved stability in the corners.
Further raising handling performance are a host of changes including a revised mounting point for its trailing arms, revised spring rates at the rear, and a revised stabiliser bar, the latter two changes being aimed at improving grip from the rear tyres.
The GR Corolla's anti-lock braking system has been revised and is now assisted by new sensors that monitor the vehicle's lateral acceleration to ensure stable activation of braking force according to the load at each wheel.
Allowing you to easier test this newfound handling credentials, is the fact that the 300bhp 1.6-litre engine now develops a peak torque of 400Nm, 30Nm more than before.
But the big story for this new GR Corolla is the fact that it is now available with a newly developed eight-speed Gazoo Racing automatic transmission (the car used to be offered solely with a six-speed manual gearbox). This new automatic transmission said to be able to anticipate driving conditions so as to deliver gears in a time on par with that of by professional racing drivers. This transmission comes with an air-fed transmission fluid cooler and a water-fed transmission fluid warmer and cooler.
Speaking of which, this revised GR Corolla also now comes with a new sub-radiator to better cool its engine, and the air-fed transmission fluid cooler makes use of an intake opening in the lower grill of the car. This intake works with an air exhaust opening in one of the front bumper's side ducts to smoothen the flow of air as it travels through the side of the vehicle.
Toyota Gazoo Racing has also made changes to the ducts that direct airflow to the front brane rotors, while the corners of the GR Corolla have also altered to raise the car's aerodynamic efficiency.
Toyota Gazoo Racing states that it is currently considering a rollout of the GR Corolla beyond North America.
