Toyota iQ EV to debut at Geneva

The iQ EV comes with an electric motor that is powered by a newly developed, flat and compact lithium-ion battery that is mounted under the car's floor. According to Toyota, the packaging doesn't take up or intrude into the iQ's passenger or boot space at all.

The iQ EV will have a driving range of 105km, and Toyota are currently testing the EV prototypes around European roads, with a view to launching a leasing programme for the car around 2012. Toyota also has plans to market the iQ EV in the U.S. as a Scion, and is investigating its viability in other regions.

The iQ EV will be among the highlights at Toyota's Geneva show stand, alongside the Yaris HSD hybrid concept, the Prius+ MPV that was shown at the Detroit Motor Show, and a nearly production- ready FT-86 rear-wheel-drive coupe.
